About this experience
Châteauneuf-du-Pape by bike, between rolled pebbles and grand crus
Here, the ground crunches under your tyres: thousands of rolled pebbles, smoothed by the Rhône over thousands of years, blanket the plots and tell the story of this appellation's singularity all on their own. It's this extraordinary terroir that we take you through, on electric power, effortlessly and unfiltered.
The route winds past the ruins of the Popes' castle, runs alongside century-old rows of Grenache and Syrah, then opens onto sweeping views over the Rhône Valley. Along the way, estate doors open for you: glass in hand, a winemaker or one of our guides explains why these thirteen permitted grape varieties produce such powerful wines.

An experience shaped by cycling, terroir and encounters

Ride over the rolled pebbles of the Rhône Valley's oldest terroir
You set off in the shade of the Popes' castle ruins before heading into the vineyard plots, where the famous rolled pebbles store the day's heat and release it to the vines at night. The electric assist smooths out every gentle incline, so all you have to think about is the scenery.

Step inside a family-run estate
A stop at a property that has been growing vines for generations: the cellar, the winery, and a look at the work in the vineyard. The winemaker speaks of the pebbled soil with the same pride you'd hear for a member of the family.

Taste a grand cru with Thomas, our wine-loving guide
Thomas often leads this stop: a sommelier at heart, he loves breaking down the Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend glass in hand and explaining why Châteauneuf-du-Pape became, as early as 1936, one of France's very first AOC appellations. A commentated tasting, never rushed.

Linger a while longer facing the Popes' castle
A small-group ride back to the village, the last tasting still lingering, with a possible stop facing the castle ruins to take in the sweeping view over the Rhône and the Dentelles de Montmirail in the distance.
